NEW YORK (Feb. 25, 2025) ---
Cameron Gallon of Western Connecticut State University has been named Divisions II/III Men’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
The designation, for games played Feb. 17-23, is unique in that it encompasses players from 49 Met area schools across Divisions II and III.
This is the first MBWA weekly award for Gallon.
A 6-5 senior forward/guard from York, PA, Gallon --- who also was named the Little East Conference player of the week --- scored a season-high 32 points, including several key baskets, in helping the visiting Wolves (17-8) come from behind to edge UMass Dartmouth 96-94 Saturday in their only game of the week.
Gallon drilled 64.7% (11-of-17) of his shots from the field, including 55.6% (5-of-9) from 3-point range, as WestConn (13-3, second place LEC) captured its ninth consecutive victory and secured a home berth in the Little East semifinals on Thursday in Danbury, CT.
Gallon scored seven points in the final 1:32 against UMass Dartmouth, allowing the Wolves to overcome a 92-85 deficit, and scored the game-winning basket on a layup as time expired.
This was the last week of the season for the MBWA 2024-25 Players of the Week program.
Over the next few weeks, the Met Writers group will be selecting its All-Met men’s and women’s teams for Divisions I, II and III. All-Met players and coaches will be honored Thursday evening, April 24, at the 92nd MBWA All-Met Haggerty Awards Dinner set for the Sleepy Hollow Hotel & Conference Center in Tarrytown, NY.
