NEW YORK (Jan. 13, 2026) ---
Hofstra University's Cruz Davis has been named Division I Men’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
The designation, for games played Jan. 5-11, is unique in that it encompasses players from 21 Met area schools in Division I.
This marks Davis' third career honor, with two MBWA Player of the Week nods earlier this season (Dec. 9, Dec. 16).
A 6-3 junior guard from Plano, TX, Davis --- who also was named the Coastal Athletic Association co-player of the week --- led the Pride (13-4, 4-0) to a pair of victories last week, extending Hofstra’s winning streak to eight games.
Davis averaged 25.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals as the Pride defeated Towson 78-67 on the road Thursday and turned back Monmouth 67-64 in overtime at home on Saturday.
Davis poured in 32 points and added six rebounds, two assists and two steals at Towson. He was huge in the first half as he scored 21 of his points in the opening 20 minutes. Davis hit three 3-pointers in the game and was 13-of-14 from the free throw line against the Tigers.
On Saturday, he scored 16 of his 19 points after intermission as Hofstra overcame a five-point halftime deficit to edge Monmouth. He once again hit three 3-pointers and was a perfect 8-of-8 at the free throw line, while also adding six rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Davis has scored in double figures in all 17 Hofstra games this season, has 20 or more points in five of the last six games and Thursday marked his second 30-point game of the season (36 at Pitt). He played all 85 minutes in the two games and has played 39 or more minutes in six consecutive games
