Samuels, Croswell Earn Women's Players of the Week Awards
 
NEW YORK (Jan. 15, 2019) --- Shadeen Samuels of Seton Hall in Division I and Kayla Croswell of FDU Florham in Divisions II-III have been named Women’s Players of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Assn.
  
The MBWA designations, for games played Jan. 7-13, are unique in that they encompass players from 73 Met area schools across Divisions I, II and III.
 
A 6-0 junior forward from Ossining, NY, Samuels --- who also was named Big East Conference player of the week --- averaged a double-double with 25.5 points and 10.5 rebounds, plus 4.0 assists and 54.1% shooting (20-of-37) from the floor to propel the Pirates (11-5) to a pair of homecourt victories last week: 82-75 over Creighton and 79-73 over Providence.
 
Samuels opened the week by registering a career-high 32 points along with 11 rebounds against Creighton. She close the week by totaling 19 points, 10 rebounds and five assists against Providence for her third straight double-double. She currently ranks among the top four in the Big East in scoring, rebounding and field goal percentage.
 
A 5-7 senior guard-forward from Norwalk, CT, Croswell --- who also was named MAC Freedom Conference player of the week --- averaged 24.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.6 steals and 2.3 assists in leading the Devils (6-9) to two victories in three games on the road last week.
 
Croswell scored a career-high 25 points on a perfect 10-of-10 shooting from the field while adding nine rebounds in an 81-52 triumph over Valley Forge. She recorded 24 points, nine rebounds, five steals and four assists in an 86-77 victory over Eastern. She closed the week with 24 points and seven rebounds in a 94-83 loss to King’s.
