Kendall Robinson of Western Connecticut State has been named Divisions II/III Men’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
The designation, for games played Jan. 9-15, is unique in that it encompasses players from 45 Met area schools across Divisions II and III.
A 6-6 senior guard-forward from Bellport, NY, Robinson averaged 24.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.3 steals while shooting 50% from the floor (25-of-50) and 76.5% at the free throw line (13-of-17) in helping the Wolves (13-1) post three victories in an undefeated week.
WestConn, which is in second place in the Little East Conference with a 5-1 league record, defeated UMass Dartmouth 85-81 at home on Monday, beat Rhode Island College 91-55 on the road on Wednesday and closed the week by topping Southern Maine 77-62 back at home on Saturday.
Robinson, who is fifth in the LEC in scoring this season with 19.5 ppg, began his week by posting 26 points, four rebounds and three blocks in the win over UMD, then followed with 28 points, four rebounds and six steals in the victory over RIC.
He finished the week by leading four WestConn players into double scoring figures with a team-high 19 points against Southern Maine.
After winning their first 10 games of the season, and then losing to LEC-leading Keene State, the Wolves are now riding a three-game victory streak.
