Aaron Estrada of Hofstra has been named Division I Men’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
The designation, for games played Jan. 2-8, is unique in that it encompasses players from 21 Met area Division I schools.
A 6-3 senior guard from Woodbury, NJ, Estrada --- who also was named the Colonial Athletic Association player of the week --- averaged 20.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists in helping the Pride (10-7) secure a pair of CAA victories on the road last week.
He shot 55.2% (16-of-29) from the field and 45.5% (5-of-11) from 3-point range in surpassing 20 points in a game for the eighth and ninth times this season, and 24th and 25th occasions for his collegiate career.
In Thursday's 67-51 victory over Hampton, Estrada posted game-highs of 20 points, seven rebounds and five assists, playing all 40 minutes in the contest.
On Saturday, he once again scored 20 points while adding seven assists and four rebounds in a 75-62 triumph over William & Mary.
