NEW YORK (Feb. 25, 2025) ---
Josh Pascarelli of Marist University has been named Division I Men’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
The designation, for games played Feb. 17-23, is unique in that it encompasses players from 21 Met area Division I schools.
This is the first MBWA weekly honor for Pascarelli.
A 6-3 sophomore guard from Cambria Heights, NY, Pascarelli --- who also was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference player of the week --- averaged 26.5 points in propelling the league co-leading Red Foxes (20-5, 13-3 MAAC) to homecourt victories last week over Canisius 89-81 and Niagara 64-61.
He nailed 58.8% (20-of-34) of his shots from the field, including 60.0% (9-of-15) from 3-point range, in the two games.
Pascarelli scored a career-high 31 points in defeating Canisius on Friday, going 11-of-16 from the field, including 6-of-9 from beyond the arc. The six treys tied a career high.
Against Niagara on Sunday, Pascarelli scored 22 points on 9-of-18 shooting from the field, including 3-of-6 from deep. He scored 14 points in the second half to help the Red Foxes withstand a late Niagara charge, including a dunk with 45 seconds remaining that gave Marist a three-possession lead.
Marist now has posted a 20-win season for the fifth time in its men’s program history, and its first since 2006-07.
This was the last week of the season for the MBWA 2024-25 Players of the Week program.
Over the next few weeks, the Met Writers group will be selecting its All-Met men’s and women’s teams for Divisions I, II and III. All-Met players and coaches will be honored Thursday evening, April 24, at the 92nd MBWA All-Met Haggerty Awards Dinner set for the Sleepy Hollow Hotel & Conference Center in Tarrytown, NY.
