Conner (Sacred Heart) Secures First MBWA Men's Div. I Player of the Week Award

NEW YORK (Jan. 28, 2025) --- Mekhi Conner of Sacred Heart University has been named Division I Men’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
 
The designation, for games played Jan. 20-26, is unique in that it encompasses players from 21 Met area Division I schools.

This is the first MBWA weekly honor for Conner.
 
A 6-1 freshman guard from New Haven, CT, Conner --- who also was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference player and rookie of the week --- averaged a whopping 12.5 assists while putting up 14.0 points per game in leading the Pioneers (8-12) to a pair of victories on the road last week.
 
Making the conference’s swing through Western New York, Sacred Heart defeated Canisius 93-84 on Thursday and toppled Niagara 86-77 on Saturday. Conner connected on 10-of-16 shots from the field, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range, in the two triumphs.
 
Conner began the swing with 10 points, 16 assists and three steals at Canisius. The 16 assists are tied for the second-most in a Division I game this season.
 
At Niagara, Conner registered a career-high 18 points plus another nine assists.
 
He leads the Pioneers this season with 116 total assists and 5.8 assists per game, numbers which are tied for No. 1 in the MAAC. Meanwhile, his assist total is knotted for 28th in the nation and his assists average is tied for 25th.
