NEW YORK (Jan. 23, 2024) ---
Caden Pierce of Princeton University has been named Division I Men’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
The designation, for games played Jan 15-21, is unique in that it encompasses players from 21 Met area Division I schools.
This was the second MBWA accolade for Pierce this season, having been previously honored on Dec. 4, 2023.
A 6-7 sophomore forward from Glen Ellyn, IL, Pierce averaged 19.5 points on 60.9% shooting from the field along with 10.5 rebounds in propelling the Ivy League co-leading Tigers (15-1) to a pair of victories last week.
In a 75-58 homecourt victory over Dartmouth on Monday, Pierce registered a double-double of 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting along with 10 rebounds and three assists.
In toppling Columbia 70-62 on the road Saturday, he recorded another double-double with 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting to go with 11 rebounds, three assists and one block.
Pierce has now recorded four-straight double-doubles to up his totals to eight this season and 15 in his career.
Since Feb. 19, 2023, the Tigers --- who at 3-0 share the top spot in the Ivy League with Cornell and Yale --- are 21-2 for a .913 winning percentage. That percentage is currently first in the nation over that span with UConn second.
