NEW YORK (Dec. 20, 2022) ---
Lauren Hunter of the United States Merchant Marine Academy has been named Women's Divisions II/III Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
The designation, for games played Dec. 12-18, is unique in that it encompasses players from 45 Met area schools across Divisions II and III.
A 5-11 senior forward-center from Tinley Park, IL, Hunter --- who also was named the Skyline Conference player of the week --- recorded back-to-back double-doubles in leading the Mariners (9-1) to victories over Lehman (59-41) at home on Monday and over Yeshiva (80-53) on the road Wednesday.
She averaged 26.5 points and 14 rebounds while shooting 59% from the field (23-for-39) as the Merchant Marine pushed its Skyline record to 5-1.
Hunter had a double-double before halftime against Lehman before finishing with 27 points and 16 boards. The senior finished her week with a 26-point, 12-rebound performance against Yeshiva.
