NEW YORK (Jan. 20, 2026) ---
Aaron Goldstein of the College of Staten Island has been named Divs. II/III Men’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
The designation, for games played Jan. 12-18, is unique in that it encompasses players from 49 Met area schools across Divisions II and III.
This is Goldstein's second MBWA Player of the Week award this season, after winning his first career honor on Dec. 23.
A 6-0 junior guard from Staten Island, NY, Goldstein --- who also was honored as the East Coast Conference player of the week --- averaged 32.5 points in leading the Dolphins (14-5, 5-2) to a pair of victories.
He shot 59.0% from the field (23-of-39) as the College of Staten Island toppled St. Thomas Aquinas 95-85 at home Wednesday and followed by defeating host Mercy 103-98 in overtime Saturday.
Goldstein registered his second-highest career scoring performance with 36 points in the win over STAC, recording seven 3-pointers and five assists. He notched his 1,000th career point in the game to become the fourth CSI men's player to reach that plateau in the Dolphins Division II era.
To close the week, Goldstein had 29 points on 10-of-16 shooting with four assists and three rebounds in the overtime triumph at Mercy.
NOTE: In scoring 23 points to lead Yeshiva past St. Joseph’s Brooklyn 95-75 last Saturday, Zevi Samet became the all-time Maccabees career scorer, having registered 2,163 points in 98 games. A 6-2 senior guard from Monsey, NY, Samet surpassed the 2,158 points posted by three-time MBWA All-Met Division III men’s player of the year (2020-21-22) Ryan Turell, who suited up in 90 games.
