Dee Dee Davis of Manhattan has been named Division I Women’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
The designation, for games played Jan. 9-15, is unique in that it encompasses players from 21 Met area schools across Division I.
A 5-8 senior guard from the Bronx, NY, Davis --- who also was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference player of the week --- poured in a career-high 37 points to go along with 11 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season in helping the Jaspers (6-10) snap a three-game losing streak by beating visiting Siena 78-53 on Thursday in Manhattan’s only game last week.
At the end of the first quarter, Davis was singlehandedly outscoring Siena 17-12. She was up to 27 points at halftime while going a perfect 5-of-5 from the field in the second quarter. She finished the game 14-of-28 from the field, including 4-of-7 from deep, while notching four steals.
