Brown (Fairfield) Banks Met Basketball Women's Div. I Player of the Week

NEW YORK (Feb. 11, 2025) ---  Raiana Brown of Fairfield University has been named Division I Women’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.

The designation, for games played Feb 3-9, is unique in that it encompasses players from 21 Met area Division I schools.

This is the first MBWA weekly award for Brown.

A 6-0 graduate “road runner” from Wheatley Heights, NY, Brown --- who also was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference player of the week --- helped the league-leading Stags (19-3, 13-0 MAAC) secure two road victories last week by averaging 21.5 points on 63.6% shooting (14-of-22) from the field, including a single-game program-record 11-of-11.

Brown also nailed 3-of-6 shots from downtown and connected on 12-of-13 free throws as Fairfield blasted Marist 80-49 last Thursday before coming from behind to beat crosstown rival Sacred Heart 82-76 on Saturday.

In just 11 minutes on the floor against Marist, Brown produced 12 points, three rebounds and two steals.

She then registered a season-high 31 points on a perfect 11-of-11 shooting against Sacred Heart. She became the first player in program history to record a perfect shooting game with at least 10 field goals made and the sixth player in the country this season. Down the stretch, she gave the Stags some breathing room, tallying nine points in the final nine minutes, part of a 15-4 game-deciding run.
