NEW YORK (Feb. 15, 2022) ---
Damaris Rodriguez of NJCU has been named Women's Divisions II/III Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
The designation, for games played Feb. 7-13, is unique in that it encompasses players from 48 Met area schools across Divisions II and III.
A 5-3 sophomore guard from Secaucus, NJ, Rodriguez --- who also was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference player of the week --- led the Gothic Knights (9-9) to victories over top NJAC teams Rowan (73-59) and Montclair State (59-55). She averaged a near-triple-double playing 37.7 minutes per game. She scored 19.0 points per game to go with 9.5 rebounds and 8.0 assists, and currently ranks second nationally in all of Division III with 7.2 assists per game on the season.
Rodriguez began the week with a game-high 23 points to go with a game-best 11 assists and a team-high nine rebounds for a near-triple-double and sixth double-double of the season in the homecourt win over Rowan.
Then, in Saturday’s first NJCU regular season win at Montclair State since 1970, Rodriguez recorded her third-consecutive double-double and seventh of the year with 15 points and 10 rebounds to go with five assists and two steals over the full 40 minutes.
