NEW YORK (Feb. 22, 2022) ---
Ryan Donovan of SUNY Maritime has been named Divisions II/III Men’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
The designation, for games played Feb. 14-20, is unique in that it encompasses players from 48 Met area schools across Divisions II and III.
A 6-2 senior guard from North Salem, NY, Donovan --- who also was named the Skyline Conference player of the week --- averaged 24.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists in a 1-1 week on the road for Maritime (4-19). Overall in the two games, he connected on 54.5% (18-of-33) of his shots from the floor.
Donovan scored a career-high 31 points on 10-of-20 shooting, including 2-of-4 from downtown, and nailed 9-of-11 (81.8%) at the free throw line to go with five rebounds and four assists in Tuesday’s 97-90 overtime win at SUNY Purchase that ended a 13-game losing streak this season for the Privateers. He recorded 12 of his points in the extra session, including a 3-point goal that put Maritime ahead to stay. For the team, it was the most points scored by the Privateers in 14 seasons, since they defeated Bard 101-77 back on Dec. 4 2007.
Back on the road again on Saturday, Donovan led Maritime in both points (18) and rebounds (7) as the Privateers fell short 71-62 at Mount Saint Mary.
Donovan is Maritime’s leader in scoring and rebounding with 18.5 ppg (fifth in the Skyline) and 6.6 rpg, and is shooting 49.1% (135-of-275) from the field (sixth in the conference).
