Caldwell's Evans Claims MBWA Men's Divs. II/III Player of the Week Honor

NEW YORK (Feb. 14, 2023) ---  Darnell Evans of Caldwell has been named Divisions II/III Men’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
 
The designation, for games played Feb. 6-12, is unique in that it encompasses players from 45 Met area schools across Divisions II and III.

A 6-0 freshman guard from Deer Park, NY, Evans --- who also was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference player of the week --- averaged 29.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.5 steals and 2.5 blocks in a 2-0 week for the Cougars (17-7), in which he shot 85.7% (18-of-21) at the free throw line.
 
Evans turned in a double-double effort with 28 points and 10 rebounds to go with five assists, three blocks and one steal, and 8-of-10 accuracy at the foul line, in a 78-71 road victory over Bridgeport last Wednesday
 
He dropped a game-high 30 points (one short of his career best) to go with six boards, three assists, two blocks and two steals, and 10-of-11 shooting at the FT line, in a 97-95 overtime win on Saturday over CACC South Division leader Thomas Jefferson.
