Isayas Aris of Alliance University has been named Divisions II/III Men’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
The designation, for games played Feb. 13-19, is unique in that it encompasses players from 45 Met area schools across Divisions II and III.
A 6-6 senior forward from Chicago, IL, Aris --- who also was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference player of the week --- averaged a double-double of 20.5 points and 15.5 rebounds as Alliance (13-14) defeated Bridgeport 105-98 on the road Tuesday and edged CACC North Division-leading Caldwell 68-67 at home on Saturday.
He shot 41.4% (12-of-29) from the field and nailed 81.0% (17-of-21) of his free throws in the two games.
Aris recorded 19 points, 14 rebounds, two assists and two steals at Bridgeport.
He notched 22 points and a season-high 17 rebounds against Caldwell, and now has reached 1,003 points scored in his college career.
Aris has earned 15 double-doubles this season, second-most in NCAA Division II and just one behind Dom Sleva of Shippensburg. He stands sixth nationally in D-II with 10.6 rebounds per game.
Based locally in Manhattan, Alliance is affiliated with the Christian and Missionary Alliance, and formerly was known as Nyack College.
