NEW YORK (Feb. 14, 2023) ---
Jenny Walker of New York University has been named Women's Divisions II/III Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
The designation, for games played Feb. 6-12, is unique in that it encompasses players from 45 Met area schools across Divisions II and III.
A 6-0 senior forward from Sausalito, CA, Walker helped the then D3hoops.com No. 6-ranked Violets (19-2) to a University Athletic Association homecourt weekend sweep over two other top-ranked teams, with all three holding the top three spots in the UAA standings.
NYU, 9-2 in the league, first scored a surprisingly lopsided 80-44 triumph over third place and then No. 13-ranked University of Chicago (18-4, 7-4) on Friday prior to edging co-conference leading and No. 22-ranked Washington University (16-6, 9-2) 63-60 on Sunday.
Walker averaged 15.5 points and 8.5 rebounds for the week, nailing 52.0% (13-of-25) of her shots from the floor and 83.3% (5-of-6) at the free throw line.
As one of four Violets in double scoring figures, Walker produced 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for a double-double (5-of-9 FG, 2-of-2 FT) with two assists and two blocks against Chicago.
The senior captain followed with 19 points (8-of-16 FG, 3-of-4 FT), six boards and an assist in a nail-biting win over Wash U.
